Reflecting on Learning Objectives

Time required: Short

Grading: Minimal or not required

Disciplines: Appropriate for all

Why: Reflecting on the learning objectives makes students more aware of the goals of your class and gives you early insight into students’ personal interests and abilities

How: Direct your students to your overall course objectives or learning outcomes, then ask them to reflect on them by (one or more of the following):

  • Picking out the ones they are most interested in
  • Identifying the ones that they think are most valuable to them personally
  • Choosing the ones that they are most concerned about

Ask them to explain their choices, and consider allowing alternative response methods (audio, video, etc.)
